DESCRIPTION Neurotransmitter Balance is a dietary blend of ingredients to support mood and feelings of emotional wellness by optimizing neurotransmitters.† Important complementary nutrients for multiple neurotransmitters are included in this formula to help with mood stabilization. † The unique ingredient Venetron®, a Rafuma leaf extract, is a safe botanical alternative to St. John’s Wort. Venetron’s bioactive properties have been shown in clinical studies to support serotonin and work through the GABA system to support a sense of calmness, wellbeing, and promote restful sleep.† This formula can be taken in conjunction with Mood Systems Balance†, formulated by Dr. Peter Bongiorno, for additional mood support.
FUNCTIONS Proper neurotransmitter balance allows the brain to keep a consistent mood that adjusts appropriately to the environment. Research suggests that using individual neurotransmitter precursors may cause imbalances of other neurotransmitter precursors. Therefore, supporting multiple neurotransmitters together can lead to optimal results.† S-Adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) is a naturally occurring molecule derived from the amino acid methionine. SAMe supports methylation reactions shown to form monoamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. Neurotransmitter Balance uses a stable form of SAMe in an acid-resistant capsule for enhanced stability through stomach acid.
Known as the ‘velvet bean,’ the herb Mucuna pruriens is a neuro-supportive botanical which comes from the Ayurvedic tradition, and is a source of L-dopa, a direct dopamine cursor. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter that affects mood and increases one’s motivation. This formula also contains amino acids which function as neurotransmitter building blocks. 5-HTP (L-5- hydroxytryptophan) can serve as a precursor to serotonin, which affects the regulation of appetite, mood, and melatonin production.† Tyrosine is the amino acid precursor for the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine, and have been of benefit to people who experience low motivation, and for those under stressful circumstances.† Venetron® (Rafuma leaf extract) is a potent and proprietary standardized extract of the plant Apocynum venetum L., and contains consistent levels of bioactive flavonoids, including hyperoside, isoquercitrin, malonylhyperoside, and quercitrin, some of which can also be found in St. John’s Wort. In clinical trials using a 50 mg daily dose, Venetron has been shown to support serotonin concentrations and HAM-D scores in order to evaluate mood and cognition.† Pharmacological investigations show Venetron® also produces a calming action through the GABA-ergic system.
