Red Yeast Rice is a unique natural product native to China that's been used in Asian traditional medical systems since approximately 800 A.D.  It is produced by the fermentation of red yeast (Monascus purpureus) with white rice. NOW Red Yeast Rice Extract is carefully produced to avoid the presence of citrinin, a sometimes toxic by-product of the fermentation process.  This product is further enhanced with the addition of CoQ10 to support healthy cardiovascular and immune system function, Milk Thistle Extract to support healthy liver function, and Alpha Lipoic Acid to provide antioxidant support.

Red yeast rice has been shown to have the benefits of cholesterol lowering abilities, as it contains lovastatin.  This compound is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor which inhibits cholesterol synthesis in the body.  Red Yeast Rice contains other cholesterol lowering compounds. There many clinical studies about the beneficial effect of red yeast rice on cholesterol levels. Most of the subjects are either patients suffered from hyperlipidermia or coronary artery disease. All studies reviewed show the efficacy of red yeast rice on cholesterol-lowering.


Red Yeast Rice and statin drugs block the enzyme that makes cholesterol in the body.  When you block this enzyme, you also block another enzyme that is attched to it, and that enzyme makes COQ10.  Supplementing with COQ10 is a good idea when you take these products, 100mg-300mg daily.  It is also a good ideas to have your liver enzymes tested by your doctor every 4 months to be sure these product are OK for your body.

Suggested Usage:  As a dietary supplement, take 2 Vcaps® 1 to 2 times daily, preferably with meals.  Consider taking this product in combination with NOW® Sytrinol®, Flush-Free Niacin and Pantethine.

Other Ingredients:  Cellulose (capsule), Silica, Stearic Acid (vegetable source) and Magnesium Stearate (vegetable source).  Vegetarian/Vegan Product.
