Ellagic acid is a naturally occurring polyphenolic constituent found in fruits and nuts, especially red raspberries. It prevents the binding of carcinogens to DNA and strengthens connective tissue, which keeps cancer cells from spreading.
Ellagic Acid has the ability to inhibit mutations within a cell’s DNA, and it is considered to be a cancer inhibitor which has the ability to cause apoptosis or normal cell death in cancer cells.
Dr Daniel Nixon from the Hollings Cancer Institute has published studies that demonstrate Ellagic acids powerful qualities. Some of his conclusions include:
1.) 40 mg of ellagitannins daily prevents the development of cancer cells. At low concentrations, it slows the growth of cancer cells; at higher concentrations, it tells cancer cells to kill themselves.
