Pancreatin is a preparation of porcine pancreatic enzymes. Pancreatin naturally contains protease (protein digesting), amylase (carbohydrate digesting), and lipase (fat digesting) enzymes. These digestive enzymes are normally produced by the pancreas. A normally functioning pancreas secretes about 8 cups of pancreatic juice into the duodenum, daily. This fluid contains pancreatic enzymes to help with digestion and bicarbonate to neutralize stomach acid as it enters the small intestine.

Digestive enzymes can do more than aid digestion. Because they are so efficient at breaking down protein, carbohydrates, and fats, they are able to stimulate the good bacteria in the gut, detoxify and cleanse the colon, and therefore improve a number of digestion-related conditions, including food and other allergies. They help mobilize and expel harmful products from the body. This process occurs at the cellular level, in organs, and in various systems of the body.
